What SAP Ariba does for supplier discovery today.
SAP Ariba covers sourcing and the supplier lifecycle, and its discovery layer is SAP Business Network Discovery, renamed from Ariba Discovery. SAP’s help documentation describes the mechanism as posting and matching: a buyer publishes a discovery posting; the network matches it to sellers by product or service category and ship-to location plus the supplier’s own stated preferences; matched suppliers see the posting in their portal and decide whether to quote. According to Dun & Bradstreet’s SAP Ariba partner page, network supplier profiles can be enriched through an optional Dun & Bradstreet data-enrichment service that matches a supplier on national business ID, VAT ID or TIN and then monitors it for updates. SAP News announced Next-Gen SAP Ariba, a phased rebuild on SAP Business Technology Platform, from February 2026. ERP Today reports that the Joule agent set includes a Sourcing Event Agent that analyzes past events and shortlists suppliers.

Where does SAP Ariba supplier discovery stop?
On the criteria above, native discovery answers who is registered rather than who exists. SAP’s help documentation states that suppliers make their company profile public once registered on the network, and that Discovery surfaces those suppliers, so a supplier holding no SAP Business Network profile cannot be matched to a posting. SAP’s own ecosystem addressed that gap: Scoutbee positioned Scoutbee Discovery around finding suppliers outside the network, and SAP announced it as an SAP Endorsed App on SAP Store on 21 February 2024. Coupa then announced an agreement to acquire Scoutbee on 6 October 2025. There is also a supplier-side cost layer. SAP’s supplier pricing page and SAP Learning material describe Standard accounts as free with unlimited document transactions, while Enterprise accounts carry a subscription fee plus a transaction fee of 0.155% to 0.35% of transaction value, with an annual cap of $20,000 for each buyer relationship, once a supplier crosses both 5 documents and $50,000 USD with one buyer in a rolling twelve months.

SAP documents the receiving side on SAP Business Accelerator Hub, with onboarding through the SAP Ariba Developer Portal: SAP describes the Supplier Data API with Pagination as reading and updating registration, qualification and modular questionnaire data in Supplier Lifecycle and Performance, and the Sourcing Project Management API as covering projects, events, bids and supplier responses. Does Speya replace SAP Ariba?
No. Speya is not a source-to-pay suite. It does not run sourcing events, contracts, purchase orders or invoices. It sits beside SAP Ariba as the discovery, vetting and monitoring layer, and can hand a tiered shortlist with sources to Ariba through the Speya API or a structured export, in an integration built on request. Ariba keeps the sourcing event, the contract and the transaction.
Does Speya find suppliers that are not on SAP Business Network?
Yes. SAP’s help documentation describes SAP Business Network Discovery as matching a posting to suppliers who already hold a network profile, so a supplier without one cannot be matched. Speya runs a live search across millions of supplier profiles drawn from 250+ data sources, including official registries, trade and customs data and certifications, with no requirement that a supplier has registered anywhere first.
How does a Speya shortlist reach SAP Ariba?
Two routes, both built on request.
